This course gives students a realistic look at what an engineering career actually involves, using the working day of a civil engineer as the guide. Through site visits, office work, design challenges, teamwork, safety checks and public consultation, students see how engineering decisions move from ideas to real-world impact.
Students will explore how engineers think, how projects are shaped by evidence and feedback, and why communication, organisation and problem-solving matter just as much as technical skill. The course also explains engineering pathways in Ireland, including Common Entry, specialisation, and the wide range of careers that an engineering foundation can lead to.
